Ula'tek — Venomous Abyss Final Boss Guide

All three stages plus the intermission, the egg-and-venom core loop, Heroic and Mythic additions, role notes, and the most common wipes.

Ula'tek is the eighth and final boss of The Venomous Abyss. She is a three-phase fight with an intermission before the last phase, built around two ideas that never stop: venom that covers the floor and eggs that hatch the moment venom touches them. This guide walks the ability list phase by phase, separates what each role owns, and flags where Heroic and Mythic add new failure modes on top of the base fight.

👀 Fight Shape at a Glance

Ula'tek is a three-phase fight with an intermission between the last two phases. The through line is area denial: Caustic Waves in stages one and two, and Circling Prey in stage three, both shrinking where you are allowed to stand. Underneath that, adds spawn constantly.

  • Stage One — Fury of the Serpent Mother: venom waves, egg management, tank-facing rage mechanics, and a burn window on the Venomous Heart.
  • Stage Two — Children of the Doomscale: Doomscale Wardens empower eggs while Doomscale Eggs hatch Ravenous Doomscales. Two threats that must be handled at the same time.
  • Intermission — The Shattering: repeated Spectral Coils soaks while Necrotic Vapors stacks on the raid.
  • Stage Three — Ula'tek's Ascension: the arena is destroyed piece by piece while she keeps calling reinforcements.

Two Passive Rules That Apply All Fight

  • Ula'tek's Bond — all aspects of Ula'tek's form share damage taken. Cleave is not wasted; splitting damage across her forms is fine.
  • Necrotic Vapors — as she disturbs the pool, vapors fill the room for 12,501 Nature damage per second to everyone. This effect stacks. It is the fight's soft enrage.

🥚 The Core Loop: Venom, Eggs, and Hatching

Almost every add in this encounter comes from the same pipeline, and understanding it is most of the fight.

  1. Blightscale Spawn — eggs — fall from the ceiling or are already on the floor. They are inert until venom touches them.
  2. Caustic Waves washes across the platform. Any egg the wave connects with hatches instantly.
  3. A hatched egg becomes a Blightscale Viper (fully gestated, dangerous) or, if broken early, a weaker Blightscale Rawling.
  4. Every Viper that hatches sprays Putrid Membrane on all players — 4 Nature damage per second for one hour. It never falls off. Each hatch is permanent additional raid damage.

Picking Eggs Up

Malignant Shell makes eggs stick to any player who touches them, ticking Nature damage while attached. Carrying an egg out of a wave's path is the intended answer — but on Mythic that gets far more dangerous:

  • Hardened (Mythic) — the shell absorbs the next 4,618,190 damage, and while hardened the egg cannot be moved at all. You must break the shell first.
  • Noxious Shell (Mythic) — moving within 3 yards of another player carrying a Noxious Shell triggers Noxious Splash: the egg instantly hatches for 750,065 Nature damage plus 541,714 per second for 10 seconds to the carrier.
  • Rancid Yolk (Mythic) — when a Noxious Shell aura is removed the egg breaks over the player, increasing Noxious Shell damage by 200% for 20 seconds.

Blightscale Clutch

A Blightscale Clutch is a group of spawn undergoing Writhing Gestation. It grows in power for as long as it remains unbroken and hatches after 20 seconds. Clutches are the highest-priority cleave target whenever they appear.

🔥 Stage One: Fury of the Serpent Mother

Ula'tek's Own Abilities

  • Caustic Waves — waves of venom across the platform: 917,186 Nature on impact plus 540,199 per second for 10 seconds to anyone in the path. This effect stacks, and waves hatch any egg they touch.
  • Call of the Serpent — she roars and her spawn fall from the ceiling, damaging players within 4 yards of each impact.
  • Mother's Wrath — knocks back her current target and marks them, biting repeatedly for 3 seconds while they stay in reach. Each bite applies Stone Venom (stacking damage over time, 1.7 minute duration) and Hobbled (-55% movement speed for 1 minute). If her current target is outside her reach, she applies these effects to everyone instead.
  • Unchecked Rage — if she cannot melee anyone while not casting, she deals Physical damage to the whole raid.

Gore Rattle

Her tail acts as a semi-independent threat with three abilities:

  • Rattler Slam — while not in melee combat, slams for 916,746 Nature damage to all players. Another reason to keep something in its face.
  • Mephitic Thrash — sweeps the ground: 750,505 Nature and a knockback to players within 35 yards; players outside 35 yards instead take 541,714 plus 116,677 every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. There is no safe range, only a choice of which damage profile you want.
  • Spectral Coils — coils rise and crush the platform for 833,406 Nature damage to all players, reduced by the number of players within 10 yards of the impact location. This is a stack-to-soak mechanic.

Rage of the Shackled — the Burn Window

Rage of the Shackled deals 41,670 Nature damage every 4 seconds to the raid for 20 seconds and drops Falling Debris at random points (2,500,217 Nature damage within 7 yards of each impact).

Flying into this rage exposes Ula'tek's Venomous Heart, and Venomous Heart takes +200% damage for 20 seconds. This is where your cooldowns go.

Mythic-Only: Toxic Womb and Toxic Incubation

  • Toxic Womb — she rips a gestating Blightscale Wretch from the ceiling, dealing 917,000 Nature damage within 7 yards of impact. The Wretch awakens after 20 seconds. Its Boiling Venom fires after 30 seconds for +100% haste and +100% damage, and Fester Burst hits players farther than 10 yards away for 542,000 plus 100,000 per second for 12 seconds.
  • Toxic Incubation — a spectral Ula'tek pours venom toward the Wretch, applying Mother's Boon once per second for 4 seconds. Each stack gives the Wretch -10% damage taken and +15% damage done. A player can intercept the venom instead, taking Toxic Burn (stacking damage over time for 12 seconds) — but each impact also erupts Caustic Waves from that player's location.

🐜 Stage Two: Children of the Doomscale

Stage two adds two new add types on top of the egg pipeline. Both must be handled simultaneously.

Doomscale Wardens

  • Writhing Gestation — transforms nearby Blightscale Spawn into a Blightscale Clutch that hatches after 20 seconds. This is the Warden's real threat.
  • Warden's Protection — its life force coils around the eggs, dealing 291,692 Nature damage per second to players within 7 yards and forbidding all touch while the warden lives. You cannot pick up protected eggs; kill the Warden first.
  • Malice — 792,000 Nature damage to all players every second for 6 seconds. A hard raid cooldown.
  • Shadow Molt — sheds its skin and relocates. Expect to chase it.
  • Grasping Fangs (Heroic and Mythic) — sinks fangs into random players, applying damage over time and -45% movement speed until broken. Snapping the fang inflicts Blight Vein. On Heroic, Blight Vein is applied to all players; on Mythic it is applied to all players and stacks.

Doomscale Eggs and Ravenous Doomscales

  • Doomscale Shell — sticks to whoever touches it; once picked up, the beast inside hatches after 20 seconds.
  • If it hatches undisturbed you get a full-strength Ravenous Doomscale, whose Dread Roar deals 791,735 Nature damage per second and stuns the entire raid for 20 seconds. That is usually the end of the pull.
  • Disrupting its gestation instead applies Defect: Weakened: +100% damage taken and — critically — it can no longer cast Dread Roar.
  • A Weakened Doomscale still has Anguished Cry (541,714 Nature within 60 yards plus a 6 second stun) and Desperate Thrash (541,714 plus 58,338 per second in a cone for 6 seconds) — both survivable.

Also in Stage Two

  • Virulent Spit — venom at several destinations, 918,488 Nature damage within 4 yards of each impact.
  • Doomscale Cauldron — a cauldron of corrosive venom that will devour any offering thrown into it.
  • Rage of the Shackled and the Venomous Heart burn window repeat in this stage.

🌪 Intermission: The Shattering

The intermission is short and mechanically simple, which makes it the easiest place in the fight to get lazy and die.

  • Spectral Coils repeats: 833,406 Nature damage to all players, reduced by the number of players within 10 yards of the impact.
  • On Heroic and Mythic, Soul Constrictor continues to lock out anyone who mitigated the previous Coils.
  • Necrotic Vapors is still stacking underneath all of it.

💀 Stage Three: Ula'tek's Ascension

She shatters the arena and spends the phase taking the floor away from you while calling in reinforcements.

  • Circling Prey — destroys a portion of the platform, pulling prey inward: 2,498,935 Nature damage and a knockback to players within 13 yards, and 208,351 Nature damage to players outside 13 yards. The arena permanently shrinks.
  • Caustic Waves continues, still hatching every egg it touches — now in a much smaller space.
  • Call of the Serpent shakes her children from the ceiling. On Normal, Heroic and Raid Finder this drops Blightscale Clutches; on Mythic it drops Slithering Clutches that actively slither toward the scent of venom, meaning they seek out the waves and hatch themselves.
  • Blightscale Shriekers tear free of ceiling eggs and hunt. Vicious Echoes deals 625,054 Nature damage plus 133,345 per second and stuns for 6 seconds; Acidic Expulsion deals 150,013 on impact plus 41,670 per second to all players for 35 seconds. On Mythic, Shriekers also gain Boiling Venom after 30 seconds for +100% haste and +100% damage.
  • Mythic also brings back Toxic Womb and Toxic Incubation from stage one, now in the shrinking arena.

⚔ Role Notes

Tanks

  • Unchecked Rage — keep someone in melee range at all times. The moment she has no melee target and is not casting, the raid eats Physical damage.
  • Rattler Slam — the Gore Rattle applies the same rule. If nothing is on the tail, it slams the raid for 916,746.
  • Mother's Wrath — expect the knockback, expect Hobbled, and have a plan to get back into reach fast. Out-of-reach means the debuffs go raid-wide.

Healers

  • Every Viper hatched adds a permanent Putrid Membrane tick to everyone, for an hour. Your job scales directly with how well DPS controls the eggs — communicate that early.
  • Spectral Coils damage is reduced by bodies in the soak. Damage taken is a function of raid discipline, not of your throughput.
  • Necrotic Vapors stacks all fight. Budget cooldowns front-to-back assuming the last two minutes are strictly worse than the first two.
  • Petrifying Sting (Heroic and Mythic) turns players within 10 yards to stone and absorbs the next 2,131,473 healing while dealing 100,009 every 2 seconds. Do not pour throughput into an absorb — dispel or wait it out where you can.

Damage Dealers

  • Priority order, always: Blightscale Clutch (grows while unbroken) → Doomscale Warden (blocks egg pickup, spawns clutches) → Vipers → boss.
  • Disturb every Doomscale Egg. A hatched Ravenous Doomscale is a wipe; a Weakened one takes +100% damage and cannot Dread Roar.
  • Save burst for the Venomous Heart window — +200% damage taken for 20 seconds is the single largest damage multiplier in the fight.
  • Interrupts and stops matter more than raw throughput here. Rawlings, Vipers and Shriekers all have casts worth stopping.

⚠ Common Wipes

  • A Ravenous Doomscale hatches undisturbed. Dread Roar is a 20 second raid stun at 791,735 damage per second. Nothing survives it. Assign egg-disturbers by name.
  • Egg control collapses in stage one. The Putrid Membrane stacks are permanent — the raid does not die in stage one, it dies in stage three from damage it accepted twenty minutes earlier.
  • Single-group Spectral Coils soaking on Heroic or Mythic. Soul Constrictor locks out your soakers and the second Coils lands unmitigated.
  • Tank hobbled out of range. Mother's Wrath's debuffs go raid-wide, then Unchecked Rage stacks on top.
  • Two Blightscale Shriekers alive at once in stage three. Overlapping 35-second Acidic Expulsion DoTs plus stacked Necrotic Vapors is unhealable.
  • Mythic egg carriers colliding. Noxious Splash at 3 yards, followed by Rancid Yolk's +200%, kills the carrier and usually a neighbour.
