Raids
The Venomous Abyss β Raid Overview
Entrances and coordinates, the four-week wing schedule, boss order, every item level and crest tier, tier tokens, and all mount and title rewards.
The Venomous Abyss is Midnight Season 2's raid tier: eight bosses buried inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek on The Coiled Isle, ending with Ula'tek herself. This guide covers how to get in, the release and wing schedule, the full boss order, every item level and crest tier by difficulty, how the tier set tokens are distributed, and the mounts, titles and achievements attached to the tier. For phase-by-phase mechanics on all eight bosses, see the companion Venomous Abyss Boss Guides page.
πͺ Getting In: Location and Entrances
The Venomous Abyss sits inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek, the sunken temple complex that forms the endgame subzone of The Coiled Isle. You reach the Vaults first, then the raid portal from inside.
Requirements
- Required level: 90
- Difficulties: Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, Mythic
- Raid Finder minimum item level: 273
Entrance Coordinates
There are three ways into the Vaults of Atal'Utek from the Coiled Isle surface. Once inside, the raid portal is toward the north / centre of the complex. Wowhead and Icy Veins list slightly different waypoints for the portal itself β both land you in the same room, so use whichever your addon accepts.
| Waypoint | What it is |
|---|---|
| /way #2512 43.3 44.2 | Gate of the Serpent Eye β surface entrance |
| /way #2512 45.4 65.9 | Gate of the Eastern Fang β surface entrance |
| /way #2512 31.8 64.9 | Gate of the Western Fang β surface entrance |
| /way #2509 47.2 21.7 | Venomous Abyss raid entrance (Wowhead) |
| /way #2509 47.11 28.30 | Venomous Abyss raid entrance (Icy Veins) |
π Release and Wing Schedule
The tier unlocks in the usual staggered pattern, with Raid Finder split into four wings over four weeks. Mythic opens on day one alongside Normal and Heroic.
| Week of | What opens |
|---|---|
| August 18 | Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Raid Finder Wing 1 |
| August 25 | Story Mode, Raid Finder Wing 2 |
| September 1 | Raid Finder Wing 3 |
| September 8 | Raid Finder Wing 4 |
π Boss Order and Raid Layout
Lore-wise, Zul'jan β pushed along by the whispers of Malacrass β has broken open the broods of Ula'tek that the Amani empire built Atal'Utek to contain. Zul'jarra sends you in to end it before the weapon gets loose.
The Eight Bosses
- Nek'zali the Soulcoiler
- Entombed Sentinels
- The Lost Explorers β a council fight with two mobs that both need tanking
- Vashnik the Malignant β single phase; the raid manages boss positioning to decide which venom pools get empowered first
- Sszorak β single phase; the boss repeatedly tries to push the raid off the edge of his platform
- The Twin Fangs β two bosses, two phases, debuff management, a group soak, and an add that scales with how many debuffs were removed
- The Coiled Altar
- Ula'tek
Wing Structure
After the first boss, the raid splits into two wings of two bosses each, with trash in between. You may clear the wings in either order. Once both wings are down you return to the central pit for the sixth boss, then push on to the seventh and eighth.
π° Item Levels, Crests, and the 344 Anomaly
Loot scales in four bands: boss 1, bosses 2-3, bosses 4-6, and bosses 7-8. Each boss also drops Mistcrests, with the crest tier set by difficulty.
| Difficulty | Boss 1 | Bosses 2-3 | Bosses 4-6 | Bosses 7-8 | Crest |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Raid Finder | 279 (Veteran 1/6) | 282 (Veteran 2/6) | 285 (Veteran 3/6) | 289 (Veteran 4/6) | Veteran Mistcrest |
| Normal | 292 (Champion 1/6) | 295 (Champion 2/6) | 298 (Champion 3/6) | 302 (Champion 4/6) | Champion Mistcrest |
| Heroic | 305 (Hero 1/6) | 308 (Hero 2/6) | 311 (Hero 3/6) | 315 (Hero 4/6) | Hero Mistcrest |
| Mythic | 318 (Myth 1/6) | 321 (Myth 2/6) | 324 (Myth 3/6) | 344 | Myth Mistcrest |
Icy Veins lists 10 crests per boss across every difficulty band, and notes that the last-band bosses on LFR, Normal and Heroic also seed the next crest tier up (LFR 7-8 drops Veteran and Champion, Normal 7-8 drops Champion and Hero, Heroic 7-8 drops Hero and Myth).
The 344 Item Level Anomaly
On Mythic difficulty only, The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek drop gear at item level 344 β the equivalent of a fully upgraded Myth 9/6 piece. That gear does not need any further upgrading, and it sits above the normal Myth-track ceiling everywhere else in the game.
π§’ Tier Set Tokens and the Slumbering Coil Curio
Bosses 2 through 6 drop tier set armor tokens, shared by armor class in the usual way. The final boss breaks the pattern.
| Boss | Slot | Cloth | Leather | Plate | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entombed Sentinels | Hands | Venomwoven Idol | Venomcured Idol | Venomcast Idol | Venomforged Idol |
| The Lost Explorers | Shoulders | Venomwoven Remnant | Venomcured Remnant | Venomcast Remnant | Venomforged Remnant |
| Vashnik the Malignant | Chest | Venomwoven Icon | Venomcured Icon | Venomcast Icon | Venomforged Icon |
| Sszorak | Legs | Venomwoven Relic | Venomcured Relic | Venomcast Relic | Venomforged Relic |
| The Twin Fangs | Helm | Venomwoven Effigy | Venomcured Effigy | Venomcast Effigy | Venomforged Effigy |
| Ula'tek | Any | Slumbering Coil Curio β all classes roll |
Slumbering Coil Curio
Ula'tek drops the Slumbering Coil Curio, which every class and armor type can roll on. Take it to Kirana and exchange it for a tier set piece of your choice.
π Great Vault Credit
Raid loot is added to the Great Vault after 2, 4, and 6 bosses have been defeated at any difficulty from the current season's raids. Story Mode does not count.
- Kills at any difficulty count toward the boss counter β mixing LFR and Normal still fills the row.
- The item level offered is based on the difficulty of the bosses you actually killed.
- Six bosses is the full raid row, so a Normal clear of the first wing plus the opener gets you most of the way there in one lockout.
π Mounts, Titles, and Achievements
Glory of the Venomous Raider
Completing the Glory of the Venomous Raider meta-achievement awards the Crimson Venomfang mount. All eight component achievements are earned on Normal difficulty or higher:
- Well, Well, Little Sky β defeat Nek'zali the Soulcoiler after returning Kupamanduka to the Soulcoil Well.
- Is Venom Stasis A Joke To You? β defeat the Entombed Sentinels after each Sentinel has used Vitriolic Stasis to restore more than half its total health.
- Accidental Inclusion β defeat The Lost Explorers including Hoji.
- Kept You Waiting Huh? β defeat Vashnik after killing the Solidified Snake Venom.
- Jumping Through Hoops β defeat Sszorak while jumping through each ring that appears.
- Taking a Bite out of Slime β defeat the Twin Fangs after feeding Ithraz the required slimes in order during Ravenous Feast.
- Watch Out Behind You β defeat The Coiled Altar while all players are afflicted by Unnerving Fixation.
- No Egg Scramble β defeat Ula'tek before the Greasy Hatchling breaks. Also awards the Ula'took battle pet.
Primeval Skyfriend
The Primeval Skyfriend mount drops from Ula'tek on Mythic difficulty. Each kill drops 3 mounts until the release of the next expansion, The Last Titan, at which point the drop rate is reduced to 1%.
Titles and Cutting Edge
- Mythic: Ula'tek β awards the title Venom's End.
- Hall of Fame: Ula'tek β among the first 200 guilds worldwide to kill Ula'tek on Mythic. Awards the title Famed Slayer of the Ula'tek.
- Ahead of the Curve: Ula'tek β kill Ula'tek on Heroic or higher during Midnight Season 2.
- Cutting Edge: Ula'tek β kill Ula'tek on Mythic during Midnight Season 2.
Other Rewards
Beyond gear, the tier also seeds housing decor and transmog, including Soulcoiler's Rush'kah and the Hex Lord's Visage.
π Practical Plan for Week One
A pragmatic route through the first two weeks, assuming a normal-to-heroic guild or a well-geared pug:
- Before August 18: clear Mythic 0 for 292 Champion-track gear and finish the Coiled Isle and Vaults of Atal'Utek content. That comfortably clears the 273 LFR floor and gets you Normal-ready.
- Week 1: Normal clear. Kill at least 6 bosses to max the Great Vault raid row. Bank any Slumbering Coil Curio rather than spending it immediately.
- Week 1-2: pick up Heroic for bosses 7-8 specifically β Heroic 7-8 seeds Myth Mistcrests, which is the cheapest early source of upgrade currency outside Mythic.
- Ongoing: chase the Glory achievements on Normal while your raid is overgeared for it. Several of them (Accidental Inclusion, Jumping Through Hoops) are much easier when mechanics aren't lethal.
